Nov. 28, 2014

Recap | Final Stats

NIU won its 10th game of the season and has now won 10 or more games in five consecutive seasons. The Huskies are currently tied with Oregon for the MOST wins in the country since the beginning of the 2010 season (56).

NIU won the MAC West crown and will play in the Marathon MAC Championship game for the fifth consecutive season. Only two other teams all-time have been to five consecutive conference championship games: Marshall, which played in six straight MAC title games from 1997-2002, and Florida, which was in five straight SEC title tilts from 1992-1996.

NIU overcame a 14-point deficit (with 4:41 to play in second quarter) to claim its biggest comeback win of the season.

Northern Illinois has won 20 consecutive games in November (including the 2012 MAC Championship game) dating back to November 9, 2010.

NIU won its 15th straight Mid-American Conference road game, dating back to Oct. 1, 2011, when the Huskies fell at Central Michigan (48-41). The Huskies won their last three MAC road games that year and were undefeated on the road in the MAC in each of the last three seasons. NIU is 3-0 on the road in the MAC so far this season.

NIU has now won 43 of its last 44 games when holding its opponents to 24 points or less, including a 8-0 mark in 2014. NIU has given up an average of just 19.4 points per game over the last five games.

The 2014 NIU seniors, the second-winningest senior class in school history, won its 45th game (2011-14). The 19 members of NIU's senior class are now 45-9 over the last four seasons for a winning percentage of .833. They need one win to tie the 2013 seniors, who compiled a record of 46-10, as the winningest class in school history. The 16 fifth-year seniors have never lost a game to either Ball State, Western Michigan or Toledo in their five seasons at NIU.

Aregeros Turner's 65-yard reception on the first play of the game was the longest of the season for the Huskies and the longest of Turner's career.

NIU gave up a safety for the second time this season (UNLV). The Huskies won both games.

The Huskies' six turnovers forced was a season high.

Dechane Durante intercepted his ninth career pass, and second of the season. Albert Smalls' INT was the second of the year for the freshman.

Senior Da'Ron Brown moved up into a tie for ninth on the Huskies' career chart for catches with 142, and is now tied with WMU Head Coach P.J. Fleck for fifth place on the career receiving yards list.

NIU held Western Michigan to just 91 rushing yards in the game, more than 100 yards below their per game average. The Huskies have now held four opponents to less than 100 rushing yards in a game, and held UNLV to just 102.

Tyler Wedel continued his pinpoint punting as his punts forced WMU to start inside its 20-yard line three times on four punts on the day. Wedel has now dropped 24 of his 54 punts inside the 20 (44.4%).

After going 0-of-5 on third down conversions in the first half, NIU finished the game 5-of-12, converting 5-of-7 third downs in the second half.
