DeKALB, Ill. - Because every great act deserves an encore, the Northern Illinois University Huskies and Sean T. Frazier are bringing back #SchedulePalooza for a return engagement this week on NIU Athletics' three primary social media platforms. Beginning Tuesday, NIU will announce several more additions to Huskie Football's future schedule line-up as part of #SchedulePaloozaEncore.
In keeping with the format of this summer's #SchedulePalooza, NIU will release clues to that day's future opponent throughout the morning on its Twitter (@NIUAthletics), Instagram (niuhuskies) or Facebook (NIU Huskies) accounts. The complete release detailing that day's opponent and game dates will be posted on NIUHuskies.com and announced through the Huskies' official social media outlets in the early afternoon.
"We've been planning this encore ever since the last SchedulePalooza ended," said Frazier, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics. "SchedulePalooza was an enormous hit with our fans this summer and really got Huskie Nation engaged and excited. With the open date for our football team this week and three straight home games coming up, we think it's the perfect time to bring it back."
NIU revealed four new home-and-home football series every day between July 29th and August 1st during the original #SchedulePalooza, which took part of its name from the famous annual Chicago summer music event featuring multiple big-time acts. Over four days, NIU announced future games with San Diego State in 2016 (home) and 2017 (away), Utah in 2018 (home) and 2019 (away), BYU in 2018 (away) and 2020 (home) and Maryland in 2020 (away) and 2021 (home).
On Sept. 9, NIU announced a home-and-home series with Boston College beginning next season that includes a visit by the Eagles to DeKalb in either 2016 or 2017. BC's game at NIU will mark the first visit by a "Power 5" school to Huskie Stadium in the College Football Playoff era. This summer's SchedulePalooza series included a pair of "firsts," with Maryland the initial Big Ten and Utah the first Pac-12 Conference team currently scheduled to play in Huskie Stadium.
