DEKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University wide receiver Da'Ron Brown (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) has been selected to participate in the 2015 National Football League Scouting Combine, the league announced today.
One of 323 NFL prospects invited, Brown is one of nine players from the Mid-American Conference selected to participate in the league's annual showcase of talent held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. Feb. 17-23.
Brown, who started all 14 games for the Huskies in 2014, earned Second Team All-MAC honors after leading NIU in receiving with 1,065 yards, which ranked fourth in the league, on 68 receptions. He is the seventh Huskie in school history to eclipse the 1,000-yard plateau in a single season. Brown tallied a career-high nine receptions in the 2014 MAC Championship Game against Bowling Green.
The 6-0, 196-pound Brown recorded two touchdown receptions in NIU's 23-15 victory at Northwestern, tying his career best. He had at least one reception in every game last season and had at least three in 13 games. He has four catches for 63 in his final game as a Huskie in the Boca Raton Bowl.
A part of three MAC championship teams at NIU over the last four years, Brown finished his Huskie career with 155 catches for 2,295 yards and 19 touchdowns. He ranks in the Top Five in NIU history in all three categories.
NIU is one of only two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools in the country to win 11 or more games in each of the last five seasons. In 2014, the Huskies won their third Mid-American Conference title in the last four years with a 51-17 victory over Bowling Green in the Marathon MAC Championship game. NIU returns 13 starters in 2015, including eight on defense. The Huskies open the 2015 campaign in Huskie Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 5 versus UNLV as part of a six-game home schedule.
