ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Northern Illinois University men’s tennis team improved to 7-2 on the season with a 7-0 sweep on Saint Louis on Saturday. With the victory, the Huskies have now won four consecutive matches dating back to Feb. 6.

In doubles action, the Huskies won at number one and two to claim the point. Senior Frederic Cadieux (Verdun, Quebec, Canada/Ediuard-Montpetit) and freshman Kevin Daun (Vasteras, Sweden/Widenska Gymnasiet Idrottscollege) were 6-2 winners at number one, their seventh win as a duo this season. At number two, freshmen Louis-Philippe Hamel (Drummondville, Quebec, Canada) and Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) claimed a 6-4 victory to clinch the point.

The Huskies swept all six singles matches, not dropping a single set en route to the sweep. Freshman Tom Hjertonsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) was his team-best 13th match of the year with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Miguel Flores at number three. Junior Simon Formont (Orléans, France/Lycée Camille Claudel) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number two for his team-best six dual match win.

Hamel improved to 5-1 this spring with his 6-2, 6-4 victory over Paarth Dodhiawala while sophomore Carlos Manzanas (Madrid, Spain/IES Principe Felipe) moved to 4-1 on the spring with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Charlie Parry.

NIU will return to action on Sunday, March 1, as the Huskies face SIU Edwardsville. The match against the Cougars is slated for 11 a.m.
