PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team earned its fourth win in the last three days as the Huskies closed their spring break trip to Florida with a 6-1 victory over Boston University on Tuesday. With the victory, NIU improved to 12-3 on the season.

"Yesterday we talked about pushing ourselves past our limits and today was our fourth match in three days," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "We played in 85-plus degree heat today and I could see through our body language we were on our last legs, but championship-level teams dig a little deeper and finish, and we did that today. I'm hopeful we can build off this trip the rest of the season."

The Huskies continued their strong doubles play in Florida by sweeping all three doubles matches.

Freshman Kevin Daun (Vasteras, Sweden/Widenska Gymnasiet Idrottscollege) and freshman Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) were 6-3 winners at number one, senior Frederic Cadieux (Verdun, Quebec, Canada/Ediuard-Montpetit) and freshman Louis-Philippe Hamel (Drummondville, Quebec, Canada) earned a 6-1 victory at number two and junior Simon Formont (Orléans, France/Lycée Camille Claudel) and freshman Tom Hjertonsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) claimed a 6-4 victory at number three.

In singles play, the Huskies earned straight set wins at one and two. Cadieux was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over William Kwok while Formont took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stefan Lemire at number two.

NIU also picked up a straight set victory at number four as Hamel defeated Mario Sandoval, 6-4, 6-4.

The Huskies also earned a pair of three-set wins at five and six. Sophomore Carlos Manzanas (Madrid, Spain/IES Principe Felipe) was a 6-1, 5-7, 10-5, winner over Jake De Vries and Lundkvist claimed a 6-7, 6-1, 13-11 victory over Lucas Bombonatti.

NIU will return to action on Saturday, March 21, when it travels to Carbondale, Ill., to face Southern Illinois. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
