NIU Wrestling Season Kick-Off Event Info

DeKALB, Ill. – As another collegiate wrestling season nears its beginning, the Northern Illinois University wrestling team is excited to announce that the Huskies will host a season kick-off event for the first time.

The first annual NIU wrestling season kick-off will take place on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 12 p.m. at Hobnobbers Food & Spirits at 2030 Baron Drive in Sycamore, Ill. The three-hour event will feature food, a silent auction and an autograph session with the Huskies.

The cost is $15 per adult and $8 for children aged 12 and under. All proceeds will go directly to the NIU wrestling program.

NIU wrestling head coach Ryan Ludwig is looking forward to the debut of this brand new event and believes it will be a great opportunity for the Huskies to connect and engage with local NIU and wrestling fans in the DeKalb, Sycamore and surrounding northern Illinois communities.

“This is a new and exciting concept for our program,” Ludwig said. “We are fired up to meet with the local wrestling community and generate excitement for our home competition schedule this season. We are looking forward to seeing all the Huskie faithful at the event!”

Having just announced one of the best home schedules in NIU wrestling history, the Huskies will begin the 2015-16 season with the annual Red/Black Dual on Oct. 30 at Victor E. Court.

Once the season officially gets underway in November, NIU will then host five home duals throughout the season, including marquee matchups with Illinois (Jan. 10) and Missouri (Feb. 7) – teams that finished in the top-15 at last year’s NCAA Championships. The Huskies will also welcome quality Mid-American Conference squads Central Michigan (Dec. 3), Northern Iowa (Jan. 8) and Kent State (Feb. 5) to DeKalb for enticing home duals this season.
