Quinton Rosser Earns Academic All-MAC Honor

March 28, 2016

CLEVELAND – Quinton Rosser of the Northern Illinois University wrestling team was named to the 2016 Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference office announced on Monday.

Rosser (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller) became the first NIU wrestler since Dan Burk in 2013 to be selected to the Academic All-MAC Team, which now requires wrestlers to have started in at least 50 percent of their team’s duals while maintaining at least a 3.2 grade-point average. Freshman and junior college transfers are not eligible for the award.

NIU wrestling head coach Ryan Ludwig praised his starting 184-pounder for “walking the walk” by setting a great example for the rest of the team – and all Huskie student-athletes – with his ability to get things done in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.

“Quinton exemplifies the term student-athlete. I am proud of him and I know NIU is as well. We talk every day about living your life the right way and striving for excellence in every area. Quinton walks that walk,” Ludwig said of Rosser after Monday’s announcement.

A staple in the NIU lineup during the Huskies’ recently completed historic season, Rosser was one of just three wrestlers on his team to start every dual match for NIU. The 184-pound sophomore, who owns a stellar team-high GPA of 3.94 as he pursues a major in nursing, had season highlights that included winning three of his matches at the Eastern Michigan Duals against Clarion, Bloomsburg and No. 24 Edinboro, another dual victory at Grand Canyon and a fourth-place finish at the Lindenwood Open at 184 pounds.

Rosser also competed for NIU at the MAC Championships, where the Huskies finished sixth with 65 points – their highest point total at the conference championships since 2004.
