MINNEAPOLIS – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team scored its first win of the season, posting a 7-0 victory over South Dakota State at the Baseline Tennis Center Sunday.

"I am really happy with the way the team competed today," said NIU head coach
Tanya Mahefu. "We were really focused and disciplined against South Dakota State. We are hoping build off this for next weekend."

Not only did the Huskies (1-1) win all singles and doubles matches Sunday, they didn't even lose a set.

Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) picked up their second doubles win on the weekend, defeating Iasmin Rosa and Morgan Brower, 6-3.
Evelyn Youel (Crustal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) and
Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar School) ensured NIU the doubles point with their 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Youel and
Raven Neely (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South) were dominant at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Youel posted a straight set, 6-1, 6-1, victory over Elif Gabb, while Neely defeated Brower, 6-1, 6-2.

After posting a 6-1 win in the first set,
Pauline Chawafambira (Dangamvura, Mutare, Zimbabwe) was pushed in the second set. The Huskie senior defeated Maria Laura Velazco, 6-4.

The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Saturday when the Huskies travel to Iowa City, Iowa to face Iowa. The match begins at 12 p.m.
