CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced Northern Illinois University junior Ashley Potts (Oakwood Hills, Ill./Prairie Ridge) as the Gymnast of the Week, Tuesday, making her the second Huskie this season to earn a conference weekly award.
 
Gymnast of the Week goes to a gymnast that is voted on by head coaches throughout the conference for their success in competition the previous week.
 
Potts tied her season high all-around score of 39.000 against Kent State and Southeast Missouri State to tie for first place on Sunday. She tied for first vault and took second on the balance beam to set her personal highs at 9.825 and 9.875, respectively.  A 9.800 on the uneven parallel bars tied Potts for second place on the event, and rounded out the day on floor with a 9.500 in a tie for 11th place.
 
"I am glad to see her receive some recognition for her hard work," said NIU head coach Sam Morreale of Potts. "She is just scratching the surface of what she is capable of doing."
 
To see Potts and the rest of the NIU gymnasts in action, NIU will host Bowling Green on Friday, February 3 at the Convocation Center. The competition begins at 6 p.m.
