Huskies Sweep Saint Louis, 7-0

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team earned its seventh consecutive victory with a 7-0 win over Saint Louis on Friday afternoon. The Huskies dropped just one set as they improved to 7-2 on the season.

"We could not have gotten off to a better start in doubles, where we were up 5-0 on every court," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "We carried that into singles and never looked back. As coaches, we always find something to pick on, with that being said we're still not closing out sets like we need to, we have got to do a better job of finishing."

The Huskies lost just one combined game while picking up wins at one and three to take the doubles point. Senior Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley/University of Denver) and junior Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) were 6-1 winners at number one while junior Louis-Philippe Hamel (Drummondville, Quebec, Canada) and junior Tom Hjertonsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) collected a 6-0 victory at three.

In single action, Lundkvist dropped just three games in a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Juan Calero at number two. Hjertonsson won his seventh-straight singles match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over John Nogalski at number four.

At number five, senior Carlos Manzanas (Madrid, Spain/IES Principe Felipe) downed Oscar Pachon, 6-3, 6-3, while Hamel claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Paarth Dodhiawala at number six. Both Manzanas and Hamel improved to 5-1 in dual matches this season.

Freshman Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) defeated David Ferragut, 6-3, 7-5, at number one and Marbach completed the sweep with a three-set comeback win, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4, over Charlie Parry.

NIU will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 18, as they host Wright State and South Dakota State at the Boylan Tennis Center in Rockford.
