DEKALB, Ill. – Following a 13-day layoff, the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, April 1, when the Huskies travel to Ball State. The match between the Huskies and Cardinals is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
The Huskies enter Saturday's match with a 12-7 overall record, including a 1-1 mark in Mid-American Conference action.
NIU was last in action March 18-19, when the Huskies split a pair of matches in central New York against Buffalo and Binghamton. The Huskies fell to the Bulls, 5-2, before bouncing back with a 4-3 win at Binghamton. NIU continued its strong doubles play this season, taking the double point in both matches; the Huskies are a combined 30-17 in dual match doubles play this spring. Junior
Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) also won both of his singles matches against Buffalo and Binghamton,
Ball State enters the weekend with a 9-8 overall record. The Cardinals have also played a pair of conference matches, falling at Western Michigan, 5-2, while also downing Toledo, 6-1. Last time out against Butler, Ball State was edged, 4-3.
Last season, the Huskies and Cardinals played a pair of tight, 4-3, matches. NIU earned a one-point victory on the road in Muncie (March 20, 2016) while Ball State came back and clipped the Huskies by a point in Rockford (April 2, 2016).
NIU will conclude its 10-match road trip next Saturday, April 8, when the Huskies travel to Toledo to visit the Rockets.
