DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team plays its sixth consecutive road match when the Huskies travel to Milwaukee, on Wednesday to take on Marquette. The match against the Golden Eagles is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
NIU takes an 11-5 overall record into Wednesday's matchup and is coming off a 6-1 victory at IUPUI this past Saturday (March 4). Junior
Tom Hjertonsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) and freshman
Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) each have nine singles victories this spring to lead the Huskies. Muzar has won six-straight singles matches, including a three-set win over Jose Calero in NIU's win at IUPUI.
Junior
Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) and senior
Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley/University of Denver) have 10 dual match victories as a doubles pairing, with all 10 coming at number one.
Marquette comes into the match with a 6-4 overall record, which includes a perfect 6-0 mark at home. Last time out, the Golden Eagles defeated Utah, 4-3 (March 5). Greg Anderson leads Marquette with 10 total victories during the dual match season.
Last season, the Golden Eagles claimed a 6-1 victory over the Huskies. Hjertonsson earned the point for the Huskies, winning at number four, 6-1, 6-3.
NIU will stay on the road following its trip to Marquette as they travel to Binghamton, N.Y., to face Buffalo and Binghamton in its first two conference matches on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19.
