DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University Softball team continues its five-game homestand when the Huskies welcome the Eagles of Eastern Michigan to Mary M. Bell Field Friday.
Â
With inclement weather forecasted for the DeKalb area all weekend, the Huskies' (24-18, 10-8) three-game set with Eastern Michigan (15-29, 3-15) has been rescheduled to a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday. Friday's games will begin at 1 p.m. CT with the second game to follow, while Saturday's start time will be determined following Friday's games.
Â
NIU enters Friday's contest on a bit of a roll. Winners of three straight, the Huskies won their first doubleheader of the season Wednesday when they defeated Valparaiso at Mary M. Bell Field. This weekend's series with the Eagles is important for NIU in terms of the conference tournament.
Â
With six games left, the Huskies are currently third in the Mid-American Conference West Division and if the season ended right now would be the fifth seed in the MAC Tournament. NIU is just a game ahead of four teams that are tied at sixth overall with a 9-9 record, including next weekend's opponent, Toledo.
Â
Live stats will be available for all three games this weekend on NIUHuskies.com and fans can watch all the action live through NIUTube at NIUHuskies.com. Prices range from $6.95 for a 24-hour pass, $10.95 for a monthly subscription and $89.95 for a yearly pass. Sign up today at NIUHuskies.com.
Â
There are several promotions happening during this weekend's series with Eastern Michigan. Friday is Strike Out Cancer Day at Mary M. Bell Field as the Huskies will honor cancer survivors during a special pregame recognition. Saturday is Alumni and Youth Day. Past NIU softball players will be recognized in a special in-game recognition during the series finale with the Eagles.
