Postgame Quotes
NIU vs. Miami
November 14, 2018
NIU Head Coach Rod Carey
Opening Statement…
"Obviously disappointed with the outcome. Too many mistakes on offense. Between penalties, drops, turnovers, lack of execution and missed opportunities made this our most disappointing performance offensively all year. If we go ahead and execute just some of those and take away the two turnovers, things would've been different."
"We've done enough to win the MAC West. We're 6-1 right now, but we'd sure like to be 7-0, but we've got the MAC West outright. We're going to be playing for a championship and that's great. That's a credit to these guys and this team and we're certainly excited about that. It's just hard to talk about that right now because this is such a bad taste in your mouth. We need to get back to work tomorrow."

NIU Quarterback Marcus ChildersÂ
On the interception return for a touchdown…
"I just forced a ball in where I shouldn't have. I made a bad decision. It wasn't like it was a killer, just a bad decision."Â
Miami Head Coach Chuck Martin
Opening Statement…
"Obviously crazy proud of our team. Northern (Illinois) has a great team, they have had a great team for a decade. They have had great runs, they are already MAC West champs. I really like Eastern Michigan's defense, but there is no one even close to their defense … their defense is head and shoulders above everybody, and they have proved it all year. Best case scenario for us, we are going to win a low-scoring game. I know our offense has been our strength and our defense has been hanging in there … we didn't let Northern's defense win the game."
On Ja'don Rucker-Furlow…
"He has been huge. We have been playing him because he has been playing the last couple of weeks. Â We have freshman high hopes, and we put him in there at Akron and he looked like a true freshman. He is a talented kid who we have high hopes for, we were hoping not to play him this year at all, but he stepped up and made a huge play that made a huge difference in a huge game for us."
On the importance of winning the inaugural Mallory Cup…
"Obviously it means a lot to us, it means a lot to me. I have a ton of respect for Bill Mallory. Crazy great career. He is the greatest coach in Miami history, he had a great run at Northern (Illinois) and an incredible run at Indiana. It means a lot to our program. It was an awesome idea to have this."
