DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team will wrap up the regular season on Friday, April 20, when the Huskies host Buffalo. The match will begin following the conclusion of the NIU women's tennis match against Eastern Michigan that is scheduled for 11 a.m.
NIU brings a 15-6 overall record into Friday's match, including a 5-1 mark in league play after defeating Toledo, 5-2, last Friday (April 13). The Huskies are a perfect 9-0 in home matches this season. Senior
Georg Lundkvist (Linkoping, Sweden/Lindkopings Kommun) and freshman
Kristopher Ortega (Homer Glen, Ill./Seton Home Study School) each recorded their 20th singles win of the season against the Rockets.
In doubles play, Lundkvist and sophomore
Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) earned their team-best 11th win of the season against Toledo, the pair are 7-2 this season playing at number two.
NIU is a match behind Western Michigan (6-0) for the top spot in the conference standings entering the final match of the regular season. The Broncos face Toledo on Saturday (April 21).
Buffalo comes to DeKalb currently in third-place in the MAC with a 3-2 conference record, and a 10-9 mark overall. Ethan Nittolo leads the Bulls with 16 victories this season while Villhelm Fridell has won 15 matches. Petr Vodak and Fridell pace Buffalo in doubles as they have combined for a 12-4 record this season, including 9-4 playing at number one.
Following its match with the Huskies on Friday, Buffalo will conclude its regular season with a matchup at Ball State on Sunday (April 22).
Next weekend, the Huskies will travel to Buffalo to compete in the MAC Championship. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, April 27, with the final to take place on Saturday, April 28.
