Huskies upend Robert Morris Wednesday

NIU connects for three home runs in victory

DEKALB, IL – Home runs from senior Brad Wood (Orland Park, Ill./St. Laurence) and freshmen Kam Smith (Colonial Beach, Va./The Steward School) and Alex Rodriguez (Cudahy, Wis./Cudahy) powered the Northern Illinois University baseball team to a 20-2 win over visiting NAIA opponent Robert Morris University at Ralph McKinzie Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies set a season high for hits (19) and runs as they earned their sixth win in the last seven games at home in improving to 15-25 overall.

"Great way to end our homestand," Huskies' head coach Mike Kunigonis said. "We need to keep the good vibes rolling into an important MAC weekend."

Wood, Smith and Jake Dunham (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) led the Huskies offense with three hits each, while Dunham, Smith, Rodriguez and Hunter Bross (Scottsdale, Ariz./Mesa Community College) all had three RBI.

Senior RHP Donovin Sims (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah Community) earned the win on the mound - his second of the season - as he tossed four innings and struck out five batters.

NIU returns to action this weekend when it travels to Muncie, Indiana for a three-game series with Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State University starting with a 2 p.m. game Friday afternoon.
