Huskies Travel To Bowling Green For Wednesday Night Matchup

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team travels to Bowling Green Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. game against the Falcons at Stroh Center.
 
Bowling Green leads the all-time series against the Huskies 24-15. NIU has won three of the last four meetings, including last season's 73-68 win at the NIU Convocation Center. Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) led all players with 29 points and 12 rebounds, making all 10 of her free throws. Abby Woollacott (Rockford, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) added a career-high 19 points off the bench.
 
NIU (9-6, 1-2 MAC) saw its perfect home start come to an end last Saturday after an 89-66 loss to Central Michigan. Myia Starks (Plainfield, Ill./Nequa Valley) led the Huskies with 17 points for her fifth double-digit scoring effort in six games. Errin Hodges (Evansville, Ind./Central) added 14 points off the bench, playing a career-high 29 minutes.
 
As a team, NIU is among the top-15 teams in the nation in scoring offense and free throw percentage. The Huskies are ninth in the country in foul shooting at 77.9 percent, which leads the Mid-American Conference. Gabby Nikitinaite (Orpington, Kent, UK/Coopers School) leads the conference at 92.9 percent with Starks, Hodges, and Mikayla Voigt (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) all in the top-10 as well. Nikitinaite is fifth in the nation in free throw percentage. NIU is 13th in the country in scoring at 81.8 points per game. The Central Michigan game was just the second time this season that the Huskies were held under 70 points. NIU has averaged 87.6 points per game over its last seven ballgames.
 
Bowling Green (7-7, 0-3 MAC) was picked to finish fifth in the MAC East in the preseason coaches poll. The Falcons lost at Akron 74-71 on Saturday despite shooting 46 percent from the field. Angela Perry led Bowling Green with 24 points against the Zips, adding nine rebounds and four assists. Sydney Lambert and Maddie Cole each had 13 points. Freshman guard Morgan McMillen leads Bowling Green in scoring with 15.2 points per game. The Falcons average 73.4 points per game and allow 70.9 points per game. Bowling Green is third in the MAC in three-point field goal percentage at 35.7 percent and overall field goal percentage at 43.2 percent.
