DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team opens a two-match homestand when the Huskies welcome Old Dominion in the conference home opener for NIU Sunday.
The match, which will be held in Victor E. Court, begins at 1 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN+.
"We're looking forward to a great match on Sunday," said NIU head coach
Ryan Ludwig. "There will be many ranked wrestlers competing."
The Huskies (2-5, 0-1) enter Sunday's match with momentum after placing two wrestlers at the prestigious Midlands Championships last weekend.
Brit Wilson (Mexico, Mo./Mexico) leads the way for NIU. The Huskie redshirt freshman placed third at 174, winning five of his six matches.
Caden McWhirter (Prattville, Ala./Prattville) made a run at 165. The Huskie redshirt junior advanced to day two and finished in sixth place.
There will be a few familiar faces on both benches Sunday. Wilson's old high school teammate Kellen Ekem wrestles at 174 for the Monarchs, while Old Dominion's Sa'Derian Perry and NIU's Mason Kaufman (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) wrestled together at Eastern Michigan.
Following Sunday's match with Old Dominion, the Huskies will play host to SIUE on Sunday, Jan. 13.
