MANHEIM, PA—Seven members of the Northern Illinois University wrestling program have earned academic recognition from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) as announced on April 1.
Collin Arch (Palmyra, Mo./Palmyra),
Tommy Bennett (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice),
Devon Dawson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Goddard),
Spencer Mooberry (Osage, Iowa/Osage),
Brett Smith (Troy, Mo./Buchanan),
Blake West (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee), and
Colin Young (Belvidere, Ill.) all earned Scholar All-American honors based on their work in the classroom and on the mat.
West and Bennett earn the honor for the third time while Arch collects his second honor.
For an athlete to receive this award, they must meet one of the following criteria:
- All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling.
- Top 8 and 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with 60% win record and 3.5 GPA
