NIU Women’s Tennis Scores Win at Bethune-Cookman

Doubles point proves key in victory

 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Northern Illinois University women's team won its second consecutive match as it defeated Bethune-Cookman, 4-1, at the City Island Tennis Center Tuesday.

 

The Huskies (4-8) took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Maria Potsi (Athens, Greece/1st Gel Cholargou) and Fernanda Naves (Mexico City, Mexico) teamed up for a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Brodie Walker (Bristol, England/Bristol Grammar) and Paula Veyhle (Stuttgart, Germany) posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

 

In singles play, NIU went on to win three of the six singles matches to win the match with the Wildcats. Walker scored a straight set, 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, while Christy Robinson (Wellington, New Zealand/Samuel Marsden Collegiate School) scored a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Naves helped seal the NIU victory with a win at No. 6 singles.

 

The Huskies return to the court Wednesday when NIU travels to Orlando, Fla. to Bucknell. The match begins at 10:20 a.m. CT at the USTA National Campus.
