WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Eric Marbach (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) and sophomore Victor Spolidorio (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) each picked up points with singles victories but the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team fell to Buffalo, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Miller Tennis Center. 

NIU (10-11, 2-4 MAC) opened the doubles with a win as freshman David Pata (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) and junior Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) scored a 6-4 win over Buffalo's Nickolas Frisk and Vilhelm Fridell at number two. The Bulls earned a 6-2 win at number three from Matthew Johnson and Valdemar Holm as the doubles point came down to the match at number one. 

In that match, Hao Sheng Koay and Ethan Nittolo outlasted freshman Mikko Malinen (Malmo, Sweden) and Spolidorio, 7-6, to give Buffalo the first point of the match. 

Johnson opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win for the Bulls at number five and Fridell added a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory at number to, bringing Buffalo within a point of the match victory. Frisk clinched the overall win for the Bulls as he earned a 7-5, 6-4 win at number four. 

The Huskies did earn a pair of wins in the final singles matches to finish as Marbach grinded out a 7-6, 7-5 triumph over Nittolo at number one while Spolidorio was victorious in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, against Simon Wibler at number six. 

NIU will close the regular season next Sunday, April 14, as the Huskies travel to Toledo.
