GOLF, Ill. – Rising senior
Jordan Less (Elmhurst, Ill./York) of the Northern Illinois University men's golf team won the 100
th Chicago District Golf Association Amateur Championship, held at Glen View Club, Thursday, taking the title with a par on the 37th hole of match play.
Less won the first hole of the 36-hole championship match against David Perkins and took a two-up lead with a birdie on the 15
th hole. Perkins rallied to win two of the last three holes in the morning 18 to make the match all square. Less was one down with 10 holes to play before winning nine and 10 to take a one-up lead. After Perkins won the next two holes to go back in front, Less birdied the par-five 13
th to make the match all square. The duo halved each of the final five holes to go to extra holes. On the 37
th hole, Less knocked his approach within 10 feet of the hole and made par to win the championship.
In Monday's qualifying round, Less tied for fourth in the 36-hole day with a two-under par 142, carding a three-under par 69 in his second round to qualify for match play. In the round of 16, Less defeated Nick Tenuta 4&3. He won two of the first four holes to take a two-up lead and traded holes through the remaining five holes on the front nine. Less won the first three holes on the back nine to take a four-up advantage, then halved the next three holes to win the match.
On Wednesday, Less rallied from a two-hole deficit to defeat Miami's Charlie Nikitas in 19 holes in the quarterfinals. He was two-down heading to the 17
th and won the final two holes of regulation to make the match all square, then won the 19
th hole to advance to the semifinals. Later in the day Less won 4&3 against Bennett Cotton to reach Thursday's championship match.
