BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's team turned in a solid performance in its first tournament of the year as five Huskies advanced to the semifinals at the Bowling Green Invitational.

"I was pleased with the effort this weekend," said first year head coach Eric Burns. "The team competed hard all weekend and it was a positive start to our season.

"We need to continue to work on the little details that make a huge difference in close matches. I'm really proud of the girls and we feel we have made big improvements as a team since the first practice two weeks ago."

The Huskies went 11-5 in their matches on Friday, 9-2 in singles play and 2-3 in doubles action. However, NIU was unable to earn in a win in singles action on Saturday.

The NIU women's tennis team returns to the court Friday when the Huskies travel to West Lafayette for the Purdue Invitational.
