MADISON, Wis. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision at Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 26) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
"Really disappointed with how we performed and, honestly, this weekend I felt we took a step back from last week," said NIU head coach
Patrick Fisher. "We did not walk in the building with confidence or that edge and it showed.
"Doubles set the tone in both games this weekend, today Wisconsin was just too good for us to overcome our lack of intensity and desire to come out swinging and we paid for it. By the time we got ourselves into the match it was too late. This is a big week ahead we're on the road again if don't make adjustments it will be another tough week."
Wisconsin took the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 victories at number one and number three, with Jared Pratt and Chase Colton picking up the victory at number one and Lenard Soha and Jesper Freimuth earning the win at number three.
The Badgers secured the dual with four singles victories, sweeping the matches at three through six. At number one, senior
Bor Schweiger Muzar (Crnomelj, Slovenia/Gimnm) had a 6-3, 2-5 lead when the result was clinched, and his match was unfinished.
NIU will be on the road for a pair of matches next weekend, heading to Chicago on Friday, January 31, to meet UIC before visiting Valparaiso on Saturday, February 1.
