NIU Continues Road Stretch At Bowling Green Saturday

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team plays its second consecutive road game this week Saturday when it takes on the Bowling Green Falcons at the Stroh Center at 12 p.m. CT.
 
On Wednesday night, redshirt-senior forward Courtney Woods (Brisbane, Australia/St. Margaret's) became the third Huskie in program history to reach 2,000 career points as NIU fell 66-60 at Central Michigan. Woods led NIU with 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, giving her 2,016 career points. NIU is the only NCAA Division I program to currently have an active career 2,000-point scorer on its men's and women's programs as Eugene German reached that mark on February 1.
 
NIU (6-14, 2-7 MAC) trailed by as much as 15 points to Central Michigan in the first quarter Wednesday before rallying to get within one, 49-48, with 6:15 to play. Gabby Nikitinaite (Orpington, Kent, UK/Coopers School) scored 12 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter at Central Michigan. Over the last five games, Nikitinaite is averaging 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and two assists per game while shooting 46.9 percent from the three-point arc.
 
The Huskies are one of two teams in the Mid-American Conference to hold Central Michigan, the MAC's leading scoring offense, under 70 points this season. NIU held the Chippewas to 37.3 percent shooting from the field and 23.1 percent from the three-point line. It was the third straight game the Huskies held an opponent under 40 percent from the field. NIU also outrebounded Central Michigan 52-40, it's third game this season where the Huskies had a rebound margin of +10 or better.
 
Bowling Green (8-13, 1-8 MAC) is coming off a 61-47 loss Wednesday night at Kent State. The Falcons led 28-27 at halftime but shot 2-for-17 from the field in the third quarter as Kent State outscored Bowling Green 18-4 to take a 45-32 lead. The Falcons enter Saturday's game as the MAC leaders in three-point percentage at 37.5 percent and are third in the conference in scoring at 73 points per game. Junior center Angela Perry leads Bowling Green with 13.9 points per game and leads the MAC in field goal percentage at 59 percent.
 
The Huskies are back at the NIU Convocation Center on Wednesday, February 12 to take on Miami at 6 p.m. NIU will host it's Power of the Pack free clinic for all girls and boys in first through eighth grade in Victor E.
