DEKALB, Ill. – NIU Athletics will premiere its 11th annual awards show, "The Victors," this Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. CT as we roll out the digital red carpet exclusively on YouTube to celebrate the academic, athletic and community service accomplishments of Huskie student-athletes.
Fans and supporters are invited to join NIU student-athletes, coaches and staff to tune-in to watch the premiere live on the
NIU Athletics YouTube Channel. Use the Live Chat section on YouTube to offer congratulations and comments on the first Victors Awards ever to be available to all fans to watch online free.
Members of the NIU community are also encouraged to interact via social media throughout Thursday night's premiere by using the hashtag #2020NIUVictors on Twitter and Instagram. Share photos of you and the family dressed in your favorite Huskie spirit gear while watching to support and honor NIU student-athletes with this year's unique version of "The Victors."
Moving online for the first time this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Victors will feature award presentations by NIU student-athletes, unique and fun video content, NIU President Lisa Freeman and Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics
Sean T. Frazier, academic honorees and will culminate with the NIU all-sport highlight video.
More than 20 different awards, including Male and Female Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Team of the Year, as well as Mr. and Miss Victor E. Huskie, an award given to student-athletes who represent commitment to developing as a champion in the classroom, in competition and in life, will be presented during Thursday night's show. Results from the 2019 spring, 2019 fall and 2019-20 winter sports were considered in the nominations and winners were selected by a vote of student-athletes and athletics staff.
Huskie fans can still have their say in the voting for one award on Thursday's show, the Play of the Year. The video and voting for Play of the Year can be found on
NIUHuskies.com and the nominees are:
Enrique Banuelos' overtime, game-winning free kick to top Milwaukee,
Tyrice Richie's balancing act 70-yard touchdown catch against Western Michigan,
Courtney Woods' game-winning basket in overtime to beat Miami and
Eugene German's last second three-pointer to win at Eastern Michigan.
Play of the Year voting will conclude on Tuesday, May 5, at 5 p.m. CT.
