DEKALB, Ill. – Three Northern Illinois University Athletics programs open their 2021 seasons this week, beginning with the women's tennis team traveling to South Bend, Ind. for a doubleheader with Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon. The Huskie volleyball and gymnastics teams also begin play this weekend.

The Huskie women's tennis team opens the 2021 season with a pair of matches at Notre Dame on Tuesday. It begins a stretch of four of five matches on the road. Following Tuesday's doubleheader against the Fighting Irish, NIU travels to Cincinnati for a single match Saturday. You can read the full season preview

Men's Basketball
The NIU men's basketball team has paused all team activities relating to positive COVID-19 tests and subsequent contact tracing. As a result, the Huskies' Tuesday, January 19 game and Saturday, January 23 contest at Buffalo has been postponed.

After opening the season last week at Bowling Green, the NIU women's track and field team heads to Allendale, Mich., on Saturday, January 23, for the Mike Lints Alumni Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State. Competition is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
Last week at Bowling Green, the Huskies swept the jumps as
Kenyae Majors took top honors in the long jump,
Kendal Only won the triple jump competition and
DaeLin Switzer tied for the top spot in the high jump. NIU was also victorious in the 4x400-meter relay at Bowling Green as the quartet of
Kadeja Campbell,
Kaitlyn Lewis,
Janae Dean and
Jahnetta Jones was first across the line.
Saturday's meet will mark the first of three trips to Grand Valley during the indoor season for the Huskies.

The Huskie wrestling team continues conference action when it travels to Columbia, Mo. for a doubleheader with Ohio and Mizzou at Missouri. NIU is looking to rebound from a 21-14 setback at Central Michigan. A late Huskie rally was not enough to fend off a slow start by NIU in the match.
