COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team competed hard splitting a pair of duals at Missouri's Herness Center on Saturday.
 
The Huskies (3-2, 2-2) opened the day with a 32-6 victory over Ohio, before falling 24-12 to the No. 6 Tigers.
 
"We like the way we competed today," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "We wrestled hard and aggressive. We need to continue to tighten up our execution as we move forward."
 
Bryce West, Brit Wilson and Max Ihry all went 2-0 on the day with West having a big day for the Huskies at 133. West recorded a pair of pins on the afternoon, defeating Ohio's Brayden Littel in the first period. He scored a last second pin of Missouri's Trey Crawford with five seconds left in the third period to give NIU a 6-3 lead.
 
Wilson remained undefeated at 184 on the season, after being tested in his two matches. The Mexico, Mo. native defeated Ohio's Carson Brewer, 5-3, before holding on to a 5-4 win over Missouri's Colton Hawks in the nightcap.
 
After a 6-1 win over Jacob Padilla to cap NIU's victory over the Bobcats, Ihry earned a 3-1 overtime win over Wyatt Koelling at 285.
 
NIU scored four bonus point victories in the win over Ohio. In addition to West's fall win, Caleb Brooks and Izzak Olejnik earned maj. dec. wins at 141 and 165, respectively. Will Feldkamp scored his first win of the season with a second-period pin over Jake Walker at 197.
 
NIU returns to the mat Saturday, Jan. 30 when the Huskies return to Edwardsville, Ill. for a MAC Quadrangular. NIU will face host SIUE, Buffalo and Clarion. All the action starts at 10 a.m. CT.
