DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team is back in action Saturday night when the Huskies host the Ohio Bobcats at 7 p.m. at Victor E. Court. The dual will be streamed on NIU All-Access on NIUHuskies.com.
Saturday's match is Throwback Night, with throwback music all night and an NIU prize pack will be awarded to the fan with the best throwback gear.
NIU (4-4, 1-1 MAC) is 1-1 in Mid-American Conference action this season after a 20-12 win over Kent State in the Huskie Duals on Dec. 18. The Huskies trailed 9-3 after four matches before
Anthony Gibson (Westland, Mich./John Glenn) won 9-4 to start a four-match run for NIU that included bonus-point wins by Izzak Olejnik (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) and
Brit Wilson (Mexico, Mo./Mexico). The Huskies enter Saturday's dual ranked 17
th in the first National Wrestling Coaches' Association Mid-Major Coaches' Poll released on Thursday.
Wilson is one of three Huskies ranked in the top-25 of the Intermat rankings this week. The redshirt-senior is ranked 20
th in the 184 pound weight class. Olejnik is the highest-ranked NIU wrestler at number 17 in the 165 pound weight class.
Mason Kauffman (Stratford, Wis./Stratford/Eastern Michigan) is ranked 22
nd in the 174 pound weight class. Kauffman was named MAC Co-Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 5 after a second-place showing at the Illinois Matmen Open.
Ohio is 4-1 on the season with a 1-1 MAC record. The Bobcats are ranked 11
th in the NWCA Mid-Major Poll. Ohio was last in action on Jan. 4 against Indiana.
