DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University wrestling team kicks off its regular season slate Saturday at 9:30 a.m. EST with a road trip to the Michigan State Open in East Lansing. The Huskies are coming off its annual Red-Black intrasquad dual the weekend prior.

Last season at the MSU Open, Brit Wilson took the title at 184 for NIU. He advanced to the championship match with an 8-1 decision over Oklahoma's Darion Roberts before winning the title due to a medical forfeit from Bernie Truax of Cal Poly.

Izzak Olejnik advanced to the 165-championship match after winning his first three matches, but fell in the title bout. Tulga Zuunbayan also reached the title bout, competing at 157, but lost to Chase Saldate of Michigan State via fall.

Two Huskies are ranked nationally according to InterMat: Olejnik ranks No. 11 at 165 and Zuunbayan ranks No. 32 at 157.
