DeKALB, IL – After a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Western Michigan Monday night, the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the NIU Convocation Center Wednesday night to take on the Bowling Green Falcons at 6 p.m. for National Girls & Women In Sports Day. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Prior to the game, NIU Athletics will hold the Power of the Pack Youth Clinic from 4:30-5:30 p.m. inside Victor E. Court. For more information and to register, log on to

All participants at the Clinic, which includes the opportunity to interact and learn skills from NIU student-athletes from the gymnastics, track and field, volleyball, softball, tennis, soccer and golf teams, receive free admission to the women's basketball game that night. Adults accompanying the clinic participants can purchase a ticket to the game for $4 each. Indicate the number of discount tickets requested in the registration form. Parking at the Convocation Center is free.
NIU (8-10, 5-5 MAC) erased a halftime deficit for the first time this season Monday night, using a 26-9 third quarter at Western Michigan to go from being eight points down to up nine 44-35. The Huskies shot 67 percent from the field to come away with a 61-47 win. NIU held the Broncos to 30.4 percent shooting from the field and 28 percent from three-point range.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy) led all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Paulina Castro (Elgin, Ill./Harvest Christian) was a perfect 5-for-5 from the three-point in tying a career-high with 15 points.
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) dished out a career-high six assists to go with 12 points and five rebounds.
Wednesday's game is the Huskies' sixth in the last 12 days. NIU is 4-1 over this stretch, averaging 69.4 points per game. The Huskies are shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 74.4 percent from the free throw line over the last five games. NIU has held its last four opponents all under 70 points and allowed the opposition to shoot just 25.4 percent from the three-point line.
Bowling Green (9-8, 4-4 MAC) is also .500 in Mid-American Conference play after a 71-67 loss at home to first place Toledo on Saturday. Amy Velasco led the Falcons with 21 points as Kadie Hempfling added 13 points and seven rebounds. Hempfling leads Bowling Green in scoring at 11.6 points per game. Bowling Green leads the MAC in field goal percentage at 45.0 percent and is third in scoring offense with 73.6 points per game. NIU has won each of the last seven meetings against Bowling Green.
NIU hosts Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
