DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team continues a stretch of five home games out of seven on Saturday afternoon when it takes on the Buffalo Bulls on Play 4 Kay day at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Saturday's game is the first of a doubleheader at the NIU Convocation Center, with the NIU men's basketball team taking on Toledo at 3:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at NIUHuskies.com/MyHuskies or by calling the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at 815-753-PACK (7225). For Saturday's women's game, the first 50 fans to enter the Convocation Center will receive a free t-shirt supported by Northwestern Medicine.
NIU (9-12, 6-7 MAC) looks to bounce back from Wednesday night's loss at Bowling Green, where the Falcons shot over 50 percent from the field and over 60 percent from the three-point line.
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had her 16
th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She is now one double-double away from tying the NIU single-season record of 17 set by
Ally Lehman five years ago. Davis is fourth in the country in double-doubles and eighth in rebounding with 11.7 points per game.
The Huskies are 6-3 at home so far this season, averaging 70.4 points per game. NIU has scored over 75 points in five of those games, including last Sunday's 80-70 win over Ohio. The Huskies have won each of their last four meetings against Buffalo at the Convocation Center by a total of 11 points.
Buffalo (9-12, 6-7 MAC) has one of the longest winning streaks in the Mid-American Conference entering Saturday's game. The Bulls won their fifth straight game Wednesday night with a 93-68 victory over Eastern Michigan. Dyaisha Fair led all scorers with 38 points, making five three-pointers while adding five rebounds and five assists. Fair is second in the MAC in scoring at 22.8 points per game. Georgia Woolley added 21 points and seven rebounds. The Bulls are second in the MAC in scoring offense at 75.8 points per game. Buffalo won the first meeting between the two teams at Alumni Arena on Jan. 29 68-61.
Following Saturday's game, NIU goes on the road to face Kent State on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m.
