TOLEDO, Ohio – Following back-to-back home wins last weekend, the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team returned to the road on Friday (April 8) and suffered a 6-1 setback at Toledo. Armin Koschtojan recorded his third consecutive singles win as NIU fell to 10-8 overall, 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference; Toledo improved to 13-6 overall, 6-1 in the league. 

The Rockets opened the contest by taking the doubles point with a pair of narrow wins. At number three, Adam Kovac and Luka Jankovic picked up a 6-4 victory for the Rockets while Pawit Sornlaksup and Marko Galic claimed a 7-5 win at number one to give the hosts the point. 

In singles, Galic took the first match to finish at number five, 6-1, 6-0. Sornlaksup scored the third point for the Rockets with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number one while Jankovic was victorious at number four, 6-1, 7-6, to help Toledo clinch the match. 

Each of the remaining three matches went to three sets. With the overall result already complete before they started a third set, Kovac slipped past Kristopher Ortega at number two, 10-3 in the third set super tiebreaker. At number three, Krzysztof Wetoszka outlasted Mikael Vollbach, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. 

Koschtojan won in the final match of the day to finish at number six, battling back in a third set to topple Luis Kleinschnitz, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. 

NIU will return to the courts on Sunday, April 10, as the Huskies face Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
