DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory over Chicago State on Friday afternoon (Jan. 27) in its first home dual match of the season at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House. With the victory, the Huskies improved to 2-1 early in the dual match season. 

"It was a good day for the Huskies, we came out with great energy and jumped on Chicago State from the first ball and never let up," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "Happy for Guy Dagan to get his first dual match win of his career. Sunday will be another opportunity for us to keep growing and improving."

NIU jumped out to a quick start by taking the opening two doubles matches by identical 6-1 scorelines. Cheng En Tsai and Mikael Vollbach claimed the victory at number one while Armin Koschtojan and Oliver Valentinsson scored the win at number two. 

In singles, at number three Iker Gaztambide Arrastia scored a 6-0, 6-3 win over Max Sandoval for the first singles point of the afternoon. Valentinsson earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number two against Hugo Hidalgo Vega while En Tsai clinched the overall win for the Huskies with his 6-4, 6-2 win against Pedro Alvarez at number one. 

Guy Dagan dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number six to claim his first dual match win. 

Koschtojan also won in straight sets at number four, bettering Arhaan Pahwa, 6-2, 6-2, while Christopher Norlin outlasted Rodrigo Alves, 4-6, 6-2, 16-14, to complete the Huskie sweep. 

NIU will be back in action on Sunday, Jan 29, when the Huskies host Cardinal Stritch in a pair of matches at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House.
