CLEVELAND — Charli Atiemo of the Northern Illinois University volleyball squad was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (Oct. 16).

Atiemo recorded 11 total blocks in the Eastern Michigan series, averaging 1.83 blocks per set for the Huskies offense.

The Huskies recorded a season-high 15 blocks on Oct. 12. The Milford, Mich. native was credited with three solo blocks and three block assists in that match. Over the series, Atiemo recorded three service aces for the Huskies.

"I am proud to see Charli get honored this week as blocking has been an intentional focus of growth for her this fall," said head coach Sondra Parys. "She has stayed the course in our training and continues to come in, wanting to be better. The results reflect her hard work and what has specifically helped the entire team succeed."

For the season, Atiemo is averaging 1.03 blocks per set. Atiemo leads the MAC in total blocks (80) this season. Atiemo is in the top-5 for highest hitting percentage in the MAC, recording a percentage of .335.

This is the second weekly conference honor of the season for the Huskies and fourth career honor for Atiemo. Atiemo was a two-time honoree in 2022 and single-time honoree during her freshman season.

The Huskies will travel to Michigan this week, taking on Western Michigan on Oct. 17 and Central Michigan on Oct. 20 and 21.
