This Week In Huskie Athletics 11/6 – 11/12
Northern Illinois University has seven teams in action this week with two teams competing at home. NIU football hosts Ball State in MACtion on Tuesday night. Men's Basketball opens the season at 5
th ranked Marquette on Monday night before their home opener on Saturday against Appalachian State. Women's basketball will compete on the road twice at Arkansas State and Western Illinois. Volleyball will travel to Ball State for games on Friday and Saturday and men's soccer will compete against Western Michigan on Wednesday in the MVC semifinals. Wrestling will travel to Michigan State and Cross Country will compete in Oklahoma at the Midwest Regionals.

The NIU football team returns to Huskie Stadium Tuesday night to take on the Ball State Cardinals. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. with the game broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Huskies scored 20 unanswered points in the second half last week at Central Michigan to get within a touchdown, but could not complete the comeback in a 37-31 loss. Redshirt-Junior wide receiver
Trayvon Rudolph set season-highs with eight receptions and 175 yards, scoring on a 72-yard touchdown reception.

The NIU men's basketball team opens the 2023-24 regular season this week as the Huskies travel to Milwaukee to face fifth-ranked Marquette on Monday night (Nov. 6). The Huskies will then return home to host Appalachian State in the MAC/Sun Belt Challenge on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) at the NIU Convocation Center. Last week, NIU topped Illinois Wesleyan, 81-64, in its lone exhibition contest (Nov. 1),

NIU women's basketball opens its 2023-24 campaign this week with two games on the road at Arkansas State and Western Illinois. The Huskies made a good first impression last Saturday night at the Convocation Center, shooting 46.5 percent from the field in a 104-43 exhibition win over Ripon College. Six Huskies scored in double figures led by junior guard
Laura Nickel's 15 points.
Jayden Marable added 14 points and a game-high seven assists with no turnovers. The Huskies outscored Ripon 58-15 in the second half. NIU and Arkansas State will meet on the hardwood for the second time Thursday in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The Red Wolves earned a 74-70 win in the previous meeting in the 1995-96 season. NIU made a single-game program record 21 threes in last season's 100-61 win over Western Illinois in DeKalb. Previews of both games will be on NIUHuskies.com later in the week.

The NIU Volleyball squad will hit the road for the final time this regular season, traveling to Ball State on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. This weekend's match-up between Ball State and Northern Illinois will be a battle between the top blocking teams in the league. Ball State leads the MAC in blocks per set at 2.33, while NIU sits at No. 2 with 2.22 blocks per set. In total blocks, NIU leads the MAC with 229 blocks this season.

Goals from
Diego Maynez and
Camilo Estrada, along with a penalty save by
Jakub Rojek, helped the NIU men's soccer team topple Bowling Green, 2-1, in the Missouri Valley Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday (Nov. 5). With the win, the Huskies have advanced to the semifinals, where they will take on top-seeded Western Michigan on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 8). The winner of Wednesday's semifinal will meet the winner of the Missouri State-UIC semifinal in the championship game on Saturday. A full preview will be available on NIUHuskies.com.

The Huskie wrestling squad will begin a month-long road swing, competing at the Michigan State University Open this weekend. The Huskies will face some of the nation's top talent at the MSU open as they start their season.
The Huskies won their invitational, the Huskie Duals. The Huskies shut out St. Ambrose 47-0 and Lindenwood 48-0, earning bonus points in 19 of the 20 bouts.

The Huskie cross country team heads to Stillwater, Okla., on Friday for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course on the campus of Oklahoma State. The six-kilometer women's race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Last time out, the Huskies earned an 11th-place team finish at the MAC Cross Country Championship.
Emma Planck led the way for NIU and finished 41st overall,
Julia Finegan just missed a top-50 place as she finished 51st. The duo both ran collegiate best times at the conference meet.
