SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Fifth-year senior
Diamond Riley closed out the 2022-23 Northern Illinois University Athletics season Saturday night at the NCAA West Preliminary Track & Field Meet in Sacramento, California by placing 31st in the triple jump.
Riley (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour HS) went 12.57 meters - 41 feet, 3 inches – on her second of three jumps to finish 31st in the 48-woman field. She opened her series with a mark of 12.46 meters and leaped 12.00 meters on her final effort.
"Diamond put forth a good effort in the triple jump, unfortunately it was not enough," said NIU Director of Track & Field
Connie Teaberry. "She fought, but the execution was not there today. She closes out an amazing career at NIU and will be missed on and off the track."
"As we close out our 2023 season, we can look back on a plethora of successes academically and athletically that we can build off to make the 2024 season better."
Riley's 2023 best jump of 12.57 bettered her mark at the 2022 NCAA West Preliminary when her best triple jump was 12.38 meters. The fifth-year senior recorded a career best triple jump of 12.94 meters to win the 2023 MAC Championship.
