NIU Volleyball Adds Pair Of Transfers

Katie Erdmann, Shannon Dunkin To Join Huskies This Fall

DeKALB, IL - Northern Illinois University Head Volleyball Coach Sondra Parys announced on Wednesday the additions of outside hitter Katie Erdmann (Forreston, Ill./Florida Tech) and middle blocker Shannon Dunkin (Menifee, Calif./UC Riverside) to the 2023 roster.

Erdmann, a 5'11" outside hitter from Forreston, Ill., comes to DeKalb as a graduate transfer after spending the last three years at Florida Tech. She played in 29 matches in 2022 and led the Panthers with 4.21 kills and 4.57 points per set. Erdmann was a Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference selection after finishing the season second in the league in kills and points per set, posting nine double-doubles. In 2021 Erdmann averaged 3.4 kills per set and added 2.3 digs per set. She started her collegiate career at Southern Mississippi, playing in 31 sets in 2019.

A Four-year letterwinner at Forreston High School, Erdmann earned Second Team All-State honors as a senior after leading the Cardinals to a 29-8 record and a Class 2A Regional Championship. A three-time All-Northwest Upstate Illini Conference selection, Erdmann also lettered in basketball and softball.

"It was very clear from my first conversation with Katie that she was going to bring tremendous value to our program for her fifth year," said Parys. "Katie has a wealth of experience at both the Division I and Division II levels and an infectious positive outlook that will greatly impact our team. I'm thrilled for her to finish her career as a Huskie, and even more excited that she gets to do it back home."

Dunkin, a 6'2" middle blocker from Menifee, Calif., averaged 0.73 blocks per set last season as a sophomore at UC Riverside. She started her collegiate career at Siena in 2021, appearing in 15 matches. She recorded 40 kills in 31 sets and added 18 blocks. Dunkin was a high school standout at Paloma Valley High School. Paloma Valley won its league two straight years and was a CIF-Southern Section finalist twice as well.

"Shannon is a great fit for our Huskie family," Parys said. "She has a way of connecting with others and comes with competitive experience. She will impact our gym as a blocker and add very important depth to our middle position. I'm really excited to see her develop with our coaching staff and connect with our team."
