DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis duo of Erika Dimitriev and Nataly Ninova earned the first Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week honor of the 2024 dual match season on Tuesday following their win over a ranked opponent on the team's opening weekend.
 
Dimitriev, a junior from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Ninova, a sophomore from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, handily defeated James Madison's Cate Broerman and Hope Moulin, 6-0, on Sunday. The Dukes' pair came into the weekend ranked 26th in the country.
 
The win by Dimitriev and Ninova helped the Huskies claim the doubles point in the match versus James Madison. On Saturday, the Huskie pair acquitted themselves well against the No. 1 doubles team from Wisconsin, the No. 25-ranked team in the nation. That match was not completed prior to the Badgers' clinching the doubles point.
 
The MAC Doubles Team of the Week honor was the first for a NIU duo since 2022.
 
NIU is back in action at the Nelson Tennis Center in Chick Evans Field House on Friday, February 2 at 3 p.m. when the Huskies take on Marquette.
