DeKALB, Ill. — The Northern Illinois University Huskies wrestling team takes to the mat for the first time for the 2024-25 season on Oct. 25 with the annual Red-Black Dual. The dual is free to the public to attend, taking place in the NIU Convocation Center with action beginning at 7 p.m.
 
The dual serves as a preseason finale for the Huskies prior to the official start of the 2023-24 season.

NIU will have four home duals this season, including the annual Red-Black exhibition dual. The Huskies will host Rider in a Mid-American Conference dual on November 22, Big Ten foe Purdue on January 12, and Buffalo on February 7.
 
NIU welcomes 16 new student-athletes to the team this season. The signing class includes five transfers and 11 true freshmen from across the Midwest.
 
In early preseason rankings, four Huskies find themselves receiving honors. Intermat sees Blake West (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) landing at No. 23 at 125 pounds while Jacobi Jackson (St. Louis, Mo./Desmet Jesuit) sits at No. 31 in the heavyweight. West lands at No. 27 in the WrestleStat preseason poll and is joined by Huskie newcomer Spencer Mooberry (Osage, Iowa/Osage/NDSU) at No. 26 in the 197-pound category. In the "The College Wrestling Report", West sits at No. 24, Mooberry lands at No. 29, while Jacob Brya (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns) reports in at No. 33 at 141 pounds.
 
Fans coming to the wrestling match should note the NIU volleyball team will be in action at 6 p.m. in Victor E. Court and the NIU Clear Bag Policy will be in effect.
