Men's Tennis | March 10
Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team saw its nine-match winning streak brought to an end against Western Michigan (10-3, 2-0 MAC) on Sunday.
"To win big on the road requires a unique form of focus and endurance," head coach René Vidal said. "Our guys understand that, but unfortunately we didn't bring those skills to the table today as a team. We have more opportunities and won't take anything for granted."
NIU (11-3, 1-1 MAC) took home the doubles point as they took two of the three doubles matches. The pair of Cheng En Tsai (Taipei, Taiwan) and Mikael Vollbach (Rothis, Austria) won at No. 1 doubles 6-4. Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and Christopher Norlin secured a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles to win the point.
Freshman Saul Berdullas picked up a win at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4 over WMU's Ashton Adesoro to account for the Huskies second point. Both Gaztambide Arrastia and Armin Koschtojan at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, dropped tight first sets by a 7-5 score.
NIU returns home at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 15 to take on Judson at the Nelson Tennis Center.
