Toledo, Ohio - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Toledo at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts Sunday, snapping the Huskies' five-match Mid-American Conference winning streak.

"We didn't start as fast as we'd like in doubles and simply gave away too many free points in singles," head coach René Vidal said. "We'll get back to work this week and be ready for Friday's match against Ball State."

NIU (17-4, 6-2 MAC) defeated Toledo (11-10, 6-3 MAC), 6-1 in their earlier meeting on March 24.

Sophomore Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain) earned a three-set win at No. 4 singles for the Huskies. Arrastia took the first set 6-2, before Toledo's Cole Cozens evened the match. Arrastia earned the win by coming back to take the third set, 6-1.

At No. 5 singles, NIU's Armin Koschtojan and Toledo's Poonthong Komolpisut split the first two sets before Komolpisut claimed the win with a 10-8 win in the super tiebreaker.

The Huskies return to action with a pair of home matches to close out the regular season. NIU takes on Ball State at Noon on Friday, April 12 before closing the regular season against Western Michigan on Sunday, April 14.
