CLEVELAND, Ohio—Eleven members of the Northern Illinois University Huskies softball team were named to the Academic All-MAC team as announced by the league office today (Wednesday).
The Huskies had the second most honorees, trailing only Ball State with 14 honorees. The conference named 98 total athletes to the squad.
This is the third time the Huskies have seen 11 members of the team received Academic All-MAC as the program accomplished that in 2017 and 2021. The Huskies program record is 13, set in 2022.
Courtney James and
Caitlyn Shumaker (2022 and 2023) earn the award for the third consecutive year while
Emily Dato and
Claire Norred earn the honor for the second time in their careers.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
