Vidal Announces Five Signings

DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis head coach René Vidal has announced the signing of five new players to the 2024-25 team. Gus Howard, Iker Dellien, Gustavo Juarez, Suo Nan and Federico Scotuzzi have joined the Huskie men's tennis program.
 
"(Assistant) Coach Cipriani and I are excited about our 24-25 Huskie men's tennis recruiting class," Vidal said. "Our guys are highly motivated to improve and create unprecedented success at the highest level of D1 tennis. As a whole, we have an experienced team with high energy ready to get things done."
 
Scotuzzi comes to NIU from North Alabama where he has played for two seasons. Last season, he went 11-11 in singles and 12-7 in doubles play. A native of Bergamo, Italy, Scutozzi won two International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior titles in doubles and earned an ITF Junior Ranking of 519. He will pursue a degree in sports management.
 
Howard comes to NIU from The University of Texas Permian Basin. A native of Bath, England, Howard played at the Bath Tennis Academy as well as The Parklangley Club in London. Howard has won multiple doubles finals and two national championships with Kent County and made the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 at UTPB in 2024. He will major in sports management at NIU.
 
Juarez is from Mexico City, Mexico and has experience playing for Centro Deportivo Chapultepec Club while earning a personal best rank in Mexico of 48. Juarez is pursuing a degree in Business Administration and Management at NIU.
 
Nan is a native of Taiwan and has earned a spot on the Taiwanese National Team and been a doubles champion in his native country. He is pursuing a degree in Kinesiology at NIU.
 
Dellien is from Trinidad, Bolivia and comes to NIU as a transfer from UAB. Dellien, who has played in Challenge 50 level tournaments, was previously the under-18 national champion of Bolivia as well before attending UAB. With the Blazers, he competed in 10 singles dual matches in 2024 and four in 2023. Dellien will pursue a degree in finance at NIU.
 
NIU is entering its second season under the leadership of Vidal in 2024-25, the Huskies finished second in the Mid-American Conference in his first season this past spring.
