Huskies Face WIU in Exhibition as Season Nears

NIU WIU goal celebration

Women's Soccer | August 9

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team played its lone exhibition match on Friday night (Aug. 9) against the Western Illinois University Leathernecks.

"It was a great workout for us after 10 days of playing against each other," NIU head coach Michael O'Neill said." We started the game with good intensity and tempo. Western Illinois got themselves back in the game and we were a little shy. We wanted to be more aggressive in the second half in our out of possession setup and we did that."

The Huskies opened practice on Tuesday, July 30 and got to see returners and newcomers in their first game action tonight.

"We are more ready now than before this game," O'Neill said. "The team is starting to get a good feel for the game and for the tactics we're trying to bring each and every day. We are going to be ready to go against DePaul."

The Huskies travel to DePaul on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. to get the regular season underway.
