This Week in Huskie Athletics – Nov. 17, 2025

DEKALB, Ill. – Huskie Football hosts Western Michigan Tuesday night while men's basketball, women's basketball and wrestling will be on the road this week in Huskie Athletics. 

Football

NIU football returns home this week, hosting Western Michigan on Tuesday night. The Huskies are coming off a 45-3 victory over UMass, rushing for a season-high 318 yards and holding the Minutemen scoreless until the 6:13 mark in the fourth quarter. 

Western Michigan (6-4) currently sits atop the MAC standings with a 5-1 record. Quarterback Broc Lowry paces the Broncos, leading the team in rushing with 683 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Defensive lineman Nadame Tucker has 16 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks on the season.

NIU men's basketball heads to Northern Iowa on Tuesday (Nov. 18) for the first of three-straight road games leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday. The Huskies head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, with a 2-2 record after topping Benedictine last Thursday. A full preview of Tuesday's game is available on NIUHuskies.com. 

Following the trip to Northern Iowa, NIU will make the short trip into Chicago to face Loyola on Friday night (Nov. 21). 

Women's Basketball
Friday, November 21: at SIU Edwardsville, 6 p.m. – ESPN+ | Live Audio | Live Stats

The Huskies are back in action Friday night at SIUE. NIU shot a season-high 42.1 percent from the three-point line at UIC on Nov. 13. Nevaeh Wingate had three three-pointers on her way to a season-high 23 points, adding seven rebounds. Freshman Cyra Conwell also had a season-high in scoring with 10 points. Wingate leads NIU in scoring at 13.8 points per game. SIUE is 2-1 on the year and hosts Indiana State Wednesday morning before the showdown against the Huskies. The Cougars won the last meeting against NIU 89-79 in Edwardsville on Dec. 3, 2023.

Wrestling
Friday, November 21: at Bellarmine, 5 p.m. – ESPN+ | Live Stats

After splitting action at the Boilermaker duals, the Huskies (1-1) continue action on the road as they travel to Bellarmine on Friday night for a non-conference dual. This will be the third meeting between the squads as the Huskies hold a 2-0 series lead. The last meeting came in 2021 with NIU winning 35-5.
 
Markel Baker, ranked No. 28 by Intermat, remained undefeated with wins over No. 22 Raymond Lopez (11-4) and No. 21 Blake Boarman (8-6) at 133 pounds. At heavyweight, Devon Dawson earned victories over Emmanuel Ulrich (7-2) and No. 31 Hayden Filipovich (6-5). The Huskies posted a 21-12 score over American at the Boilermaker duals while falling to Purdue 28-9.
