Women's Basketball | December 28
DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team wraps up its current six-game road trip Monday afternoon at St. Thomas. Tip-off at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena is set for 2 p.m. CT.
The game will be broadcast locally on 94-9 WDKB as well as the Summit League Network.
NIU (2-9) returns from a nine-day break after opening Mid-American Conference on Dec. 20 at Central Michigan, an 89-51 loss.
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) led a balanced Huskies offense with 10 points, her sixth double-figure scoring effort this season. Wingate was 4-for-7 from the free throw line and is third in the MAC with 56 free throw attempts this season.
Freshman guard
Emilie Sorensen (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) was 2-for-3 from the three-point arc against the Chippewas, scoring eight points with a team-high five rebounds. Sorensen is 10-for-15 from long range over the last four games. She is averaging 10.3 points per game over that stretch. The Huskies were 5-for-11 from the three-point line against CMU, their fifth game this season with at least five threes.
St. Thomas (6-7) had a five-game winning streak snapped on Dec. 21 in a 58-40 loss to Northern Iowa. The Panthers shot 63.6 percent in the fourth quarter to rally for the win. Alyssa Sand and Mikayla Werner led the Tommies with nine points each. Sand leads St. Thomas with 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Monday's game is the second meeting all-time between NIU and St. Thomas. The Tommies won the first meeting last season, 75-68, on Nov. 10, 2024.
