LAFAYETTE, LA—Splitting action on the first day of the Ragin' Cajun's Invitational, the Northern Illinois University Huskies (3-4) took on Central Arkansas and Louisiana. The Huskies posted a 4-0 win over Central Arkansas to start the day before falling 4-1 to the tournament hosts.
Lia Nance (Oceanside, Calif./Oceanside) had her first multi-hit game of her career, going 3-for-3 at the plate against Central Arkansas.

Kathryn Gleason eclipsed the 250-win mark in her career.
Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) led the Huskies in the second game of the day, going 2-for-3 at the plate against Louisiana.
"On the day, our preparation is giving us confidence and keeping us calm on the field," noted Gleason. We are able to stick to our plan and execute well. In both games, we scored first and that helps. We played some great defense and are ready to take on Sam Houston tomorrow."

Nance reached base via walk before rounding home on
Madison Mathews (Yuma, Ariz./Cibola) RBI groundout to the shortstop.
Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) scored on
Katy Ramage's (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora Township) RBI double as Stewart and Ramage each recorded a double in the inning.
In the second inning,
Alana Powell (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood Academy) singled up the middle of the field before nabbing second base. Powell scored on a sacrifice fly before Ramage added to the Huskies lead in the third inning.
Through the first four innings, the Huskie defense allowed two hits as Stewart recorded three strikeouts. Stewart added a pair of strikeouts rounding out her line with three walks and her first win of the season.
Louisiana Recap (Louisiana 4, NIU 1)
Turner opened the second game of the day with a single through the left side. Turner scored on a wild pitch as she recorded the lone hit of the first inning for the Huskies.
The Ragin' Cajuns responded in the bottom of the inning, as Cecilia Vasquez scored a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead.
The Huskie defense held the Ragin' Cajuns to just one hit between the second and third innings.
Ramage got the fourth hit of the game and her first double of the game to reach base in the fourth inning.
Louisiana added to their lead in the sixth inning, scoring on a fielding error by the Huskies. The Ragin' Cajuns scored the final run, stealing home in the bottom of the sixth.
Huskie Highlights
- Nance's third straight game with a hit this season came against Central Arkansas.
- Stewart, Ramage, and Powell all collected multiple hits for the Huskies, accounting for six of the 10 hits.
- Ramage had a double in each game today. Ramage had multi-doubles in a single game for the first time in her career.
- Turner and Ramage were the only two Huskies to record a hit in both games today.
Tournament Update
Due to impending weather in the Lafayette area, the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational has made some adjustments to games. The Huskies will take on Sam Houston State at 8 a.m. on February 15 before facing off against Ole Miss on February 16 at 9 a.m.
