Cape Girardeau, Mo. – Kiera O'Shea (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) won on vault for the fifth straight time as the Huskies earned second place in a tri-meet against SEMO and Centenary College on Friday.
"Oh, I'm just, I'm super proud of Kiera," interim head coach Nita Teague said." "She just keeps getting it done, she's doing great and having great vaults. She has continued to step up her all-around scores as well."
The Huskies led heading into the final rotation before SEMO caught NIU. The Huskies earned second place in the meet with a 193.550 as Semo won with a score of 193.875 and third place went to Centenary College with a186.525.
"I thought we had a good meet," Teague said. "We left a little on the table, and it was, it was rough to come up a little bit short, but we really had a good meet and we competed well."
NIU opened the meet on beam.
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) and
Ellery Werner (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) led off for the Huskies and both scored a 9.700.
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) followed and added a 9.650 O'Shea scored a 9.600. NIU scored a 48.150 on the opening event.
The Huskies headed to the floor on the second rotation and
Alana Anderson (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) led the way and set a season high with a 9.825 on floor. O'Shea also scored a season high with a 9.800 on the event. Brown also scored a 9.800 on the floor. NIU posted a 48.850 to take the lead from SEMO after two rotations.
O'Shea led the way for NIU on vault with a 9.850, which was good for O'Shea's fifth straight meet win on vault.
Drake White (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) added a 9.775 to earn third place as
Jocelyn Harbeck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) scored a 9.725 as the Huskies posted a 48.750 on the event. NIU led after three rotations by a score of 145.900 to 145.275 for SEMO and 139.175 for Centenary.
The Huskies closed out the meet on bars. Talia Kraus (Fairport, N.Y./Southern Connecticut State) and
Aliyah Kelly (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) led the way and tied for second place in the tri-meet with a 9.650. NIU scored a 47.650 on bars.
The Huskies will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 23 as the Huskies travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on Western Michigan. That dual is set for a 12 p.m. start time.
