DeKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University catcher
Logan Gregorio hit .533 with a 1.267 slugging percentage in the Huskies' weekend series with Kent State to earn Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors Monday
Gregorio, a junior from Naperville, Illinois who is in his first season at NIU after transferring from Benedictine, went 8-for-10 with three home runs, two doubles, seven runs scored and nine RBI in Sunday's doubleheader split.
He was 5-for-6 with a home run and five RBI in game one. His home run in the top of the sixth gave the Huskies a 5-4 lead in a game NIU went on to win 14-8. Gregorio hit two home runs in the nightcap and drove in four more runs while also scoring four runs with three hits in four trips to the plate.
"I don't know that I've ever seen anything like the day Logan had, where a hitter just completely dominated the other team," said NIU head coach
Ryan Copeland. "It's as impressive a performance as I've ever seen in person. He's got a pedigree of hitting and that's why we wanted him here at NIU. Logan just has such good at-bats every single time he goes to the plate."
The Waubonsie Valley (HS) product leads NIU with a .392 batting average with 20 RBI, five home runs and four doubles through the first 13 games of the 2025 season.
Gregorio is the first Huskie to be named MAC Baseball Player of the Week since Jake Dunham on May 10, 2021.
NIU plays a midweek game Tuesday (March 11) at Kentucky before taking on Miami (Ohio) in a three-game set in Oxford beginning Friday (March 14). First pitch for Tuesday's game is at 5:30 p.m. (CT). The game will air on SEC Network+
